"This is the best day ever..."
The simple words spoken by an innocent child, heard while she skipped around the RYF children's Safety Ride and Expo yesterday.
That is the best way for me to summarize the success of the RYF Children's Safety
Ride and Expo yesterday. The questions how many children came? How
many bikes were given away? How many RYF members volunteered? What
time did you finish? How much did it cost? Just questions that of
course we have answers to...but the same answer keeps coming to mind: "This is the best day ever"
the answers we have: 75 children,
10 brand new bikes given, 50 plus RYF family members volunteered, we
finished clean up in less than 1 hour...bikes, helmets, prizes, sag stop
and more...all donated! Of course, we had expenses...but "This was the best day ever" in so many ways.
Doc and I, along with the Board of RYF were overwhelmed with the generosity of
so many...the support of so many...and the selflessness of so many.
Thank you to every person who gave money, gifts, bikes, helmets,
refreshments...the list is long. Thank you to all of the volunteers
who came Friday night to clean the parking lot, to those who came
Saturday morning at 6:30am and stayed and labored till every piece of
trash was discarded.
Thank you to the children who came and were blessed with the knowledge
of safety in bike riding and to the ones who patiently taught them.
you to the bike shops: Dons Bike's, Cyclery USA, Yucapia Bike Shop and
the Redlands Bike BBQ. Thank you to Redlands Community
Hospital for another year of selflessness in giving of time, water
bottles, chap stick and sun screen, to the staff of IYBI medical clinic
for popping corn, being tatoo artists and lovingly encouragingchildren
to color and have fun. Thank you to the RYF performance team, and
their families, for being the leaders, the winners...the encouraging
young men who represent RYF
so well. Thank you to the Redlands Fire Department for taking the time
for the fourth year in a row to come and serve selflessly...it always
touches my heart to see those big strong guys gently washing all those
bikes and for just being the "heros" we all look up to and appreciate so
much. Thank you to David Cain, RYF Safety Officer for the safety vests,
generator and so much support. Thank you to Rick Nichols, DDS of "Just
Kids Dentistry" for the support from day one...the SAG stop was amazing
as always, the donation of helmets and your safety talk was so great.
Thank you to KSGN 89.7 for being the best radio station and for
supporting us for the second year in a row.
you to Barbara Arispe, RYF event coordinator, who showed up every day
after a long day of work in Palm Springs, to shop, wrap gifts, plan and
organize...and her husband Carlos for his handy work and for always
having the longest zip ties I have ever seen. Thank you to Doreen
Aranda who travels from Anaheim week
after week to support RYF...just because.
Thank you to Marilyn and Don Stoner who are a blessing to
RYF...donating bikes, money, love and support always! Thank you to Jen
an Clyde Thompson for the use of the generator year after year...and
Jens amazing talents with registration. Thank you to Ron
Mutter...without his talent, dedication, and skills things just would
not be the same...I dont even want to think about it! Thank to Mark
Witkowski for the amazing photography.
Thank you to Ralph Roach who year after year works tirelessly (on his
birthday weekend) to make sure this event is a success. Thank you to
Greg Armstrong and the Plain Wrap ride for your generous donation during
the Plain Wrap Ride. Thank you to Craig Kundig of Cyclery USA for
securing the fencing and "Stop Sign"...you saved the day and your
generousity is so greatly appreciated. Thank you to Mark Stanson for
donation of bikes. Thank you to Ben from Don's Bike Shop...so good to
see you up and about. Thank you to IEHP for the helmets. Thank you to Patrick and Julia Ragan for your generous support always. Thank you to Howie for the music. Thank you to Gernaro...worlds
best flag twirler, and to his wife Tara for always lending a supporting
hand wherever needed. Thank you to George, manager of Mimi's for the
delicious muffins for Saturday morning. The list is so long and I know
that I have not listed every name...I ask that you do not feel bad or
upset or think that your support went unnoticed...
know that Doc and I saw you, we noticed you and we love you. Without
you we could not achieve the levels of success with RYF that we do. We
know each of you...whether you cleaned up the night before, volunteered
on Saturday or just kept the event in your prayers...we know, and for
that we thank you.
Most importantly...please know that you all made this years RYF Childrens Safety Ride and Expo...
"The Best Day Ever" for 75 children and for Doc and I and the entire RYF family.
Have a blessed week.
