Letter from Dr. Steve Wilson regarding the 2026 Redlands Bicycle Classic Legend's Fondo.
Dear Ride Yourself Fit, Walk Yourself Fit, and Eat Yourself Fit Members,
Happy New Year to all of you. I want to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for
being part of this incredible organization. Our organization has always been about Fun, Fitness, and Fellowship,
and that spirit exists because of your passion, generosity, and commitment.
For many years, we have come together to create something truly special through our annual cycling event…
originally known as the Plain Wrap Ride and more recently as the Legends’ Fondo. Over the past seven years,
these events have been remarkably successful, and that success has only been possible because of the care, energy,
and teamwork you consistently bring. Together, we have made magic happen every year!
Unfortunately, for 2026, we have been unable to secure a final contract with the Redlands Bicycle Classic. This
led to a very difficult decision by the Ride Yourself Fit Board of Directors, one made thoughtfully, unanimously,
and with great respect for the Redlands Bicycle Classic, as well as for the history and vision of the Legends’ Fondo.
Several significant factors contributed to this decision, including:
• Inability to plan out the event with adequate amount of time.
• Differing perspectives regarding route design, including the fact that routes submitted over three
months ago were not finalized.
• The potential for route changes and last-minute modifications, which raised substantial concerns related
to rider safety, volunteer logistics, and overall execution.
• Operational challenges that would place Ride Yourself Fit at a disadvantage at this point in the timeline.
In prior years, late changes resulted in significant strain on our volunteer base and operational over extension
something we are not in a position to repeat. Additionally, with less than three months remaining before the event, there is insufficient time to responsibly implement major changes, secure additional resources, or adequately mitigate risk. Financial considerations including increased costs associated with event insurance, SAG support, staffing, T-shirts, and finishing medals also contributed to the Board’s concerns.
Taken together, the Board concluded that proceeding under the current circumstances would not be in the
best interest of Ride Yourself Fit, our volunteers, or the cycling community we serve.
We sincerely wish the Redlands Bicycle Classic continued success with the Legends’ Fondo and the 2026 event
overall. Ride Yourself Fit remains open to considering a future collaboration should timelines, roles, and
expectations be more closely aligned.
I hope this letter helps clarify why Ride Yourself Fit will not be producing the Legends’ Fondo in 2026. Thank
you again for your continued support, belief in our mission, and dedication to this amazing community.
Healthy regards,
Dr. Steven Wilson
