Welcome to the Redlands Legends' Fondo
Three Rivers & Oak Glen Challenge
Volunteer Page

We are pleased to announce that Ride Yourself Fit and the Redlands Bicycle Classic have joined again this year to present the Redlands Legends' Fondo, Three Rivers and Oak Glen Challenge Rides as a part of the 2025 Classic.  The ride will take place on Saturday, April 12, starting at 8:00 am in downtown Redlands.

During the beginning years of the Redlands Bicycle Classic, a fun ride was presented as a part of the overall event.  Over the years, the ride changed from a general fun ride, to more of a challenge ride. Then, as the professional bike races expanded with longer and more challenging routes, the fun ride was administered by a local service club.  Ridership diminished over time as more races and events were developed.  Today, the public races are seeing less participation and fewer spectators attend the Saturday morning events.  The Redlands Bicycle Classic has desired to boost the number of spectators and add events that all riders can enjoy and participate in. The Redlands Legends' Fondo was created to boost the various activities on Saturday, including an expanded Vendor Village.  Ride Yourself Fit will be producing the new Fun Rides in 2025 which are included in the list of events for the Redlands Legends' Fondo event.

This year's Three Rivers and Oak Glen Challenge Rides will operate in a similar manner as the past fun rides produced by Ride Yourself Fit. This year, riders will be given a $10 voucher as they finish, and will be able to redeem this voucher for food, beverages and souvenirs on the Citrus Avenue parking structure Vendor Village areas. Souvenir Finisher Medals will also be given. A secure bicycle parking service will also be provided at no cost to participants.  Riders can spend the day watching the profession races and enjoying the atmosphere for the longest continuing professional bicycle stage race in the country.

Ride Yourself Fit – Redlands Legends’ Fondo – Volunteer Job Descriptions

Course Marking –

Volunteers will place colored road arrows on the routes for the various fun rides.  The placement of the arrows will be pursuant to a schedule provided listing the portion of the route to be marked, the color, location and number of arrows to be placed, and a map of the portion of the route with turn directions.  Volunteers will be shown how to place arrows prior to leaving the IYBI Office parking lot. It should be noted that volunteers will be required to work in the streets with traffic.  Traffic safety vests will be provided to volunteers.  Three volunteers will be needed for each team, a vehicle driver and two to place arrows and spot traffic.

Volunteers shall meet at the IYBI Office parking lot no later than 7:30 am on Friday, April 11. A training session will be provided showing how and where to place arrows, how to work in traffic and how to read the provided placement schedule. Three teams of three persons each are required.  Time required is generally 4 to 5 hours.

Check Roadway Marking -

Volunteers will drive a select portion of the routes within the area around downtown Redlands early on the morning of Saturday, April 12. Historically, some arrows have turned up missing after placement on the prior day. Most that were found to be missing were due to street sweeping activity or turning movements of vehicles.

Volunteers may receive a number of colored arrows and a placement schedule to be checked. Generally, very few arrows actually need to be replaced. Volunteers may pick up supplies on Friday evening at the Civic Center and proceed directly to the assigned route in the morning. The team will need to start approximately 5:30 am on Saturday, April 12. One team of two persons is required.  Time required is generally less than 1 hour.

Registration –

Donna Dawson, Registration Manager, will be in charge of the registration process. Donna will go over any last minute details before registration opens on Saturday morning.

Registration is divided into three areas, Pre-Registration, Same Day Registration and Registration Greeters. Volunteers will assist with the checking in of riders as they arrive at the check-in area at the Civic Center parking lot at 35 Cajon Street. Two areas will be set up, one for pre-registered riders and the other for riders who need to register.

Four volunteers shall be greeters.  Greeters welcome the riders and ask if they are pre-registered or need to register. Riders are then directed or escorted to the appropriate tables/areas to complete the process and receive their wrist band. Greeters will also direct riders to a hospitality coffee station and/or to the start line on Citrus Avenue.

Pre-registration will be located at tables set up on the northwest area of the Civic Center parking lot.  Volunteers shall ask for the name of the rider, check the name off from the provided registration list, and provide the rider with an identification wrist band, then call up the next rider in line.

Same Day Registration will be located in the middle section of the parking lot.  Volunteers will ask the riders which ride they want to ride, have them fill out the registration form and sign the waiver, collect the appropriate fee for the ride, provide then with an identification wrist band, then call up the next rider in line.

Volunteers are asked to arrive by 6:00 am to assist with set up, with registration opening at 6:30 am. The rider starts at 8:00 am so all riders should have been checked in on at the starting line Volunteers will then assist with the breakdown of the tables and chairs.  NOTE: Tables and chairs will be used by RYF to set up the Finish Line, Bike Valet and Volunteer Hospitality areas.
