Beach - Yorba Park GE
Anybody who wishes to start in Redlands and ride the Santa Ana River Trail to the beach may do so. The ride will start at the IYBI Office and roll out at 5:30 am. Riders must arrange for their own transportation back to Redlands, and may do so from Huntington Beach (72.3 miles), Edna Park (85.6 miles) or Yorba Park (98.4 miles.)
The ride from Redlands to the beach should take approximately 5 hours at a 14.5 mph average. All riders will start together and ride to the SART at Waterman Avenue. It is anticipated that two groups will continue from this point.
Riders who wish to roll at an average faster than 14 to 15 mph may do so in a separate group. A second group will ride at about 14 mph with stops to regroup as necessary.
Also, sunrise will be at 6:30 am, and it will still be dark at 5:30 am, so lights will be required on your bicycle.
CLOSURE NOTICE: There is a construction project in the City of Yorba Linda which consists of bank protection improvements to the north levee of the Santa Ana River generally between east of Yorba Linda Boulevard to Gypsum Canyon Road. The proposed improvements primarily consist of replacing the existing channel slope with a combination of grouted stone and reinforcement measures to provide bank protection.
Orange construction fencing has been installed on the southerly side of La Palma Avenue. During construction, the existing bikeway within the Santa Ana River will be detoured onto La Palma Avenue. This detour will be in effect for the duration of the construction which is anticipated to run through Mid-2017. To accommodate the bikeway detour, k-rail will be set on both sides of La Palma Avenue to protect the relocated bikeway lanes from
Mercado Del Rio
to
Via Lomas de Yorba West
. From
Via Lomas de Yorba West
to the easterly project limit, the k-rail will be located on only the southerly side of La Palma Avenue.
PLEASE NOTE:
For those RYF members riding to Huntington Beach from Redlands, if you either need a ride back to Redlands or have extra space in your vehicle (including transporting a bicycle) for the return to Redlands, we can post information on our Home page. Send the information to the
webmaster@rideyourself.org
.
Riders may also wish to check the availability of riding Metrolink from the Santa Ana station to the San Bernardino station for the return (total route is 97 miles). Weekend routes are limited but information can be found on the Metrolink website at
