WYF San Juan Capistrano Walk – Saturday, August 13
Our walk starts here:
Parking lot at the San Juan Capistrano, Amtrak/ Metrolink Train Station, 26701 Verdugo St, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675. Please arrive by 9:00 AM.
Taking Metrolink from San Bernardino to San Juan Capistrano:
The San Bernardino Metrolink Station is located at 1204 W 3rd St, San Bernardino, CA 92410. From the I-10/I-215Interchange, head north on the I-215. Take the 2nd/3rd Street exit and follow the large green directional signs to the station.
When you arrive, you will see covered parking on your left. There is also parking available outside. Parking is free.
There is a small free-standing portico next to the lot and train tracks with ticket kiosks that accept credit/debit cards, cash and coin.
The San Bernardino to San Juan Capistrano line is the Inland Empire-Orange County (800 series). It leaves San Bernardino at 7:05 AM. Make sure to take train #857. (Do NOT take train #351 that leaves at 7:00 … otherwise you will not in up in San Juan Capistrano!)
We advise getting to the San Bernardino station by 6:30 AM, so you have time to park and purchase tickets. Weekend Day Pass is $10.00*.
The return train leaves San Juan Capistrano at 3:29 PM, arriving back in San Bernardino at 5:38 PM.
*$10 Weekend Day Pass is good for unlimited system wide travel either Saturday or Sunday. The Weekend Day Pass is accepted for free transfers to connecting transit services, except Amtrak. The $10 Weekend Day Pass is available for purchase only on Saturday and Sunday. The Weekend Day Pass expires at 3am following the date of purchase. Carpooling information:
Meet at the Dawson house: 838 College Ave., Redlands, CA 92374 at 7 AM.
We can take three people in our car. If we have more walkers wanting to carpool, we may need an additional driver or two. Who wants to volunteer if needed?
We will leave San Juan Capistrano for our return trip to Redlands at 2:30 PM.
For those driving themselves:
We ask that you arrive at the San Juan Capistrano Amtrak/Metrolink Station (see address above) by 9 AM. We will be meeting at the Dawson’s 2004 Lexus RX330 silver green in the train station parking lot.
Driving directions using the SR 241 and SR 133 Toll Roads:

Take the 91 freeway through Corona. Exit onto the 241 toll road and proceed approximately 11.9 miles to the 133 toll road. Exit onto the 133 toll road and proceed approximately 4.0 miles to the southbound I-5 freeway. Proceed on I-5 approximately 13.6 miles to Ortega Highway, SR 74. Turn right on Ortega Highway and drive past the San Juan Capistrano Mission. Turn left on Camino Capistrano then right on Verdugo Street to the Amtrak/Metrolink train station which is the first driveway to the right.

Take the 91 freeway through Corona to the 55 freeway. Proceed south on the 55 freeway to the I-5 freeway. Take the I-5 freeway south and exit on Ortega Highway, SR 74. Turn right on Ortega Highway and drive past the San Juan Capistrano Mission. Turn left on Camino Capistrano then right on Verdugo Street to the San Juan Capistrano Amtrak/Metrolink train station which is the first driveway to the right.

Mission San Juan Capistrano and lunch:
The Mission San Juan Capistrano will actually be toward the end of the five-mile walking route. We anticipate arriving at the Mission about 11 AM. Mission tour tickets are: Adults: $9 and Seniors (60+): $8. After the tour, we can check out the restaurants in the area for lunch.
